Easycore (less commonly known as popcore, dudecore, softcore, happy hardcore, and EZ) is a subgenre of melodic hardcore that mixes elements of pop punk and different forms of hardcore punk, particularly metalcore and post-hardcore. It is characterized by its use of melodies commonly found in pop punk fused with breakdowns found in post-hardcore and hardcore punk. A number of groups also take influence from metal and make use of unclean vocals. The genre originated in the early 2000s with groups such as New Found Glory and Sum 41 being highly influential in its development (with the former naming the genre on a tour known as the "Easycore tour"). The easycore sound was later popularized in the mid-2000s to early 2010s by bands such as Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!, A Day to Remember, and Four Year Strong. Easycore has since seen a decrease in popularity which some credit to the over-saturation and outplayed nature of the genre.
