Madchester was a music scene in Manchester, UK, during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This style is known for incorporating elements such as psychedelic rock, indie rock, acid house and funk, including tambourine or percussion sound typical of 70s funk. These bands included Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, Northside, 808 State, James and The Charlatans.

Baggy is synonym with Madchester while the bands that weren't part of the Manchester music scene, such as Flowered Up, The Farm, The Soup Dragons, The Real People, and early Blur.
