アシッド・ハウスとは、狭義にはアナログシンセサイザーの変調効果を多用したエレクトロニック・ミュージックを指す。広義では、1987年頃からシカゴやロンドンで同時多発的に始まった、電子音楽、ファッション、クラブ・カルチャーをミックスしたカルト現象を意味する。

Acid house is early genre of house music that developed around the mid-1980s by DJs from Chicago, but became widely popular in the UK (primarily in London and Manchester) and Europe of the late 1980s and early 1990s. The sound is typically repetitive, and emphasizes the deep basslines and "squelching" sounds of the Roland TB-303. Phuture's 1987 single "Acid Tracks" is one of the first examples of the genre.
