Art needs to convey a (preferably deep philosophical) message; otherwise, it is just a pretty spectacle or design.
DISCLAIMER: You need Japanese to understand what they are saying; otherwise, this work will be demeaned to being just another pretty spectacle for you.
Usually Japanese music lyrics are made purposefully to be a jumble of nonsense words that somewhat fit the theme, and thus they are usually just beautiful spectacles or shows... but never art.
Not for this masterpiece, no. This is a perfect example of how art can be. By using the books' historical material, and by adding their own beautiful thematic performance of it, the producers of this project made something worthy of nothing less than the title "Masterpiece".
I learned from it; I felt it; I experienced it; I heard it's message; and I was dazzled by its beauty.
This masterpiece is recommended to any person, not just to the target audience of high-schoolers wanting to pass the exam. But you need to watch the MV's and hear what they have to say, not just listen passively... because they have a lot to say.
Now, all of the songs are beautiful IMO; however, I have to admit that:
2 - 古代オリエント物語
4 - 起起落落
5 - イスラームワールド
9 - 銃声の交響曲
11 - VOYAGE! -世界時空旅行-
are the epitome of vocaloid art that I heard so far (and I heard a lot, trust me), and now I can't stop listening to them. <3
Also, I have to admit, I never really understood how Electrocutica was here in a project about history and education and never thought techno music could fit these subjects in any way... but boy did they prove me wrong.
I am so inspired by them.
Just get it and watch it OK, you'll thank me.
